In photography and optics, vignetting refers to a reduction in image brightness in the image periphery compared to the image center.

Right after start, Vignetting Reducer has only three active buttons: Open Image(s) which loads your images (BMP, TIFF and JPEG are supported at the moment), Quit which terminates the program and Load Mask. Unlike the other similar programs, Vignetting Reducer does not generate circular gradient which 'simulates' vignette. It uses real image called 'mask' instead. Working with correct mask is absolutely critical if you don't want to sink into pain and frustration. Typical mask should look like this:

To create mask, point your camera (equipped with all the add-ons that are responsible for vignetting) at bright (white or pale grey if possible), homogeneous surface and take the picture (clear sky should do in most cases).  

Mask's size will be auto-adjusted to fit image size, but for best results mask and image aspects (width/height ratio) should be egual.

From version 1.3 masks are customizable to some degree. You can select the 'Hotspot'  which is the brightest area of the mask (by default 'Hotspot' is placed in the center of the mask)...

...and change area where mask is applied to the original image.  

Depending on your setup, you may want to create masks for different aperture values, differrent add-on lenses etc. With Store button you can set current mask as default one. Default mask is loaded automatically on program start.

When mask is loaded it is automatically applied to current image. You can adjust brightness, vignetting removal effect boost and output image quality (move the slider to the rightmost position to save in BMP format) until you're satisfied with the result. I've provided simple cropping tool, which can be used to trim unwanted or destroyed by strong vignetting edges.
